Amber Dixon Nominated for National Award by Peers

Amber Dixon recognized as 1 of 3 national nominees for Woman of the Year award

Salt Lake City, UT – The national office of the Women in Insurance and Financial Services (WIFS) organization asked its more than 1,000 national members to nominate one of their peers for its highest level of recognition, the Woman of the Year award. Amber Dixon, the Marketing Director for Intermountain Financial Group, LLC, and current Utah WIFS Chapter President, is one of only three nominees.

To qualify for this award, the nominee must demonstrate strong leadership within the industry, including services to WIFS and other organizations, on both national and local levels; have made a significant contribution to supporting, encouraging, and advancing other women in the insurance and financial services industry; and be a current member of WIFS for a minimum of three years.

After recognizing the strong need for a local organization built to motivate, inspire, encourage, share ideas, and mentor other women in the industry; Dixon co-founded the Utah chapter of WIFS in early 2009, with the financial support of the President/CEO of Intermountain Financial Group, the Utah agency of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), Todd Reid, JD, CLF.

“I am delighted and honored that I was nominated for this prestigious award by my peers,” stated Dixon. “I have loved building relationships with these women, while celebrating our many successes, and working through our few disappointments. Utah WIFS has been a tremendous group to be a part of.”

Dixon has worked in the financial services industry the past 11 years with Intermountain Financial Group, under the leadership of Todd Reid, JD, CLF.

“Amber has been instrumental in our company’s community involvement, recognition, and marketing efforts on a local and national level,” Reid said. “We are proud of her for being recognized as a person who is making a difference in our company and the financial services community.”

Dixon currently serves as President of the Utah WIFS board, VP of Trustees of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Utah Chapter, Chair of the Workforce Development Committee (WDC) as part of the Salt Lake Chamber, and on the marketing and communications committee for the Utah Women and Education Initiative (UWEI). Dixon also served as an event judge at the International DECA Career Development Conference in 2012.

A celebration gala will be held at the WIFS National Conference in Atlanta, GA in October where Dixon will be recognized as a nominee.

Greg Williams Wins Award and Donates Money to Jordan School District

7/18/2012 Salt Lake TribuneLearn More

As listed in the Salt Lake Tribune July 18, 2012:
Education » $10,000 grant will implement leadership program in Jordan School District.

Thirty years have passed since Greg Williams last walked the hallways of Hillcrest High School in Midvale as a teacher.
Williams pursued a career in finance after working as a history, psychology, and geography teacher and coach at the school. But he didn’t leave his passion for education behind as he climbed the ranks as a financial adviser for the Massachusetts-based MassMutual Financial Group.

Williams joined the board of the Jordan Education Foundation more than a decade ago, where he has worked to raise money for school activities and programs.

So when Williams’ company offered a contest of sorts to honor volunteers — with an award of $10,000 to donate to the winners’ favorite charity — he submitted an application.

Out of more than 5,000 people in Williams’ company, he was recently selected as one of 10 winners nationwide for his history of community service and success as a financial adviser at Intermountain Financial Group in Salt Lake City.
The $10,000 grant will be used to fund a program called The Leader in Me, modeled after Stephen Covey’s book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, at Silver Crest Elementary in Herriman and Southland Elementary in Riverton.

Twenty-two schools in the Jordan School District already have the program, which costs about $5,000 to sponsor at each school. The program is funded through donations from business partners and the Jordan Education Foundation.

The program incorporates The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The 7 Habits of Happy Kids, written by the late Stephen Covey’s son Sean Covey, into the school’s culture and curriculum.

Students and teachers focus on such habits as being proactive, finishing work before play and planning. Children keep data folders with individual mission statements, goals, and academic scorecards and figure out what types of learners they are. Students then take classes in certain subjects based on their ability level.

“I think The Leader in Me program kind of permeates everything — the student, the teacher, the parent, the home and the community. It teaches values and it doesn’t focus on one thing,” said Williams. “I think it would have a long-term impact for the kids and the school. It changes their study habits; it improves disciplinary problems.”

Sandy Riesgraf, a spokeswoman for the Jordan School District, said school officials eventually would like to offer The Leader in Me program at all elementary schools. She said it’s exciting that Williams’ grant will expand the program to two more schools.
Williams said he’s pleased he won the grant and plans to continue his volunteer work with the district.

“I’m real committed to education and to the students,” he said. “That was how I started my career; that is how I want to continue in my career.”
