I would like to be able to talk with you about this exciting event that brings so much joy to the special needs community. Awards will also be given to two individuals, Leeann Whiffen who was the main driving force in the initial attempt to pass a law that requires private insurance companies to pay for autism services as any other claim. This was to be known as Clay’s law, named after her son Clay. She is the author of A Child’s Journey Out of Autism. The other recipient, Jake Shewmake is a special education teacher and the coach of the Murray High School baseball team. He is being honored for his work in incorporating his baseball team and his special ed students in joint activities. Jake has started a fund with the money from a teaching award to pay for these joint activities. His baseball team has an annual fund raising baseball game for additional funding. His team assisted his special ed students in playing a 27 inning game this past spring as the fundraiser. This is a strong feature article with the Salt Lake Bees and Exceptional Parenting Magazine being involved as well. Please contact Todd or myself for more information. We’d love to have a human interest story ran. Thank you in advance
